Gold Leaf in progress
One day, I received a commission to apply gold leaf to a Mortimer pipe organ.
The owner had seen my previous work and asked if I would be interested in taking on this unique task. Although I had never worked with gold leaf before, he offered to teach me the process. The pipe organ was an impressive 25ft x 15ft. Each piece needed to be delivered to my studio. For the largest pieces, I traveled to my client's home, located in a unique 'fly in' community where most residents owned airplanes to reach their homes. The owner had collected about 15 large pipe organs that were prominently showcased in this space. It was a painstaking process, and I admit I felt a bit overwhelmed.
I completed the project using traditional Chinese gold leaf techniques along with insert Waterhouse reproduction paintings as per the owner's request. Since that experience, I have integrated a lot of gold leaf into my art, including commissioned murals.
I believe that gold leaf truly elevates the vibrational energy for both the viewer and the environment it inhabits. Let me know what you think.
